Fused Glass
Size: 12" x 12"
This quilt-like pattern was made using various components that I made at my studio in Terre Haute. Colored glass rods were first fused into the surface of clear glass. Next, shapes were cut, fitted and arranged onto a black background and fused again. Finally the glass was slumped into a plate form.
While working in on this project thoughts of my mother came often. Betty Jean was a skilled seamstress and often made special clothing that we wanted. She was not afraid to tackle sewing my sister’s wedding dress or a long black cape for me to wear to a “Chicago” concert at Purdue.
I’m better at mending jeans than sewing lovely clothes but I felt having a creative loving mother, played a role being able to design and fabricate this piece in glass. Thank you Mom.
